Lakeland, FL (April 1st): Just after midnight on April 1st, a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 92 (locally referred to as East Memorial Boulevard) killed a 16-year-old passenger. The drivers involved in the crash were both sent to the hospital.
17-year-old Jonathan Joel Acosta was the driver of a 2002 Honda Accord, traveling eastbound in the inside lane of East Memorial Boulevard. He swerved across the center left-turn lane and crossed into the path of a 2017 Jeep Compass. Raymond Brian Matt, age 42, was the driver of the Jeep, which collided with the front passenger side of Acosta’s vehicle.
Acosta’s passenger, Jose Luis Sanchez, was pronounced dead at the scene. Acosta and Matt were sent to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center.
