St. Petersburg, FL (March 25) – On Monday, March 23 at 2:25 p.m., Jerry Wayne VanDyke tripped while trying to cross a St. Petersburg street and was hit by a Jeep. He died from resulting injuries in the hospital later that night.
VanDyke was 72 years old. He at first survived the collision and was moved to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for the treatment of life-threatening injuries.
When VanDyke was attempting to cross 34th Street, he tripped off of the curb as a Jeep drove toward him. In an attempt to avoid him, driver Danelle Monique Mullis breaked and tried to swerve. But, the right corner of her SUV ended up striking VanDyke.
