Handling Your Property Damage Claim
The following procedure will allow you to get an early start on the timely adjustment to your Property Damage.
- Have your car moved to your repair shop.
- Call to other person’s insurance company within 1 - 3 days of your accident and get:
- The name of their adjuster:
- Their claim number:
- The adjuster’s phone number:
- Find out what day the adjuster should inspect your car.
- Tell the adjuster where to find your car and its make, year, and color.
- Have your shop make an estimate to repair your car.
- If your car needs parts, tell the shop to order them now! (Don’t delay more than 3 days)
- If your shop says your car is a total loss (that is the repair costs exceed 80% of its actual cash value), advise the adjuster at once!
- Call the shop at regular intervals to see how the repair work is proceeding. (Early on to see if the parts have been received and repairs started and at least 3 days before the car is to be ready.)
- Be prepared to give the body shop the insurance draft after you have inspected the completed repairs.
- If your car is a total loss, call or visit at least three (3) auto lots that sell your kind of car. Always complete the following and be prepared to discuss your findings with the adjuster:
